Today in MJJ HIStory

1997 – Michael Jackson played the first of three shows at London’s Wembley Stadium. The shows were part of the “HIStory Tour.”
Michael’s first UK date for five years, sparked a massive demand for tickets for the 15th July concert.
‘We haven’t seen a rush on this scale for years,’ a spokesman for Wembley Stadium said. ‘It’s like Euro ’96 fever all over again’. Second concert, and a third Wembley date and a concert at Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium on 15th & 17th July, followed.

The concerts attracted predictably mixed reviews, but world boxing champion Prince Naseem Hamed spoke for the majority when he commented, ‘Wicked performance – respect to Michael!’
Even Lisa Marie Presley, Michael’s ex-wife, couldn’t resist attending the Wembley dates. Michael spends his stay in London with Lisa Marie and her children while performing the 3 concerts.
